Our values

The core values of the Law Commission are below. They do more than describe what we stand for—they communicate what drives us in how we work and will help us make decisions, shape our culture, and hold ourselves accountable to the standards we believe in.

Independence: We act independently, with objectivity and without control from the government, political parties, or any external body. Our independence ensures that our reforms and recommendations are impartial, objective, and based solely on advancing good law reform for the benefit of society.

Expertise: We act to ensure our work and recommendations are based on evidence and grounded in detailed research. We value the expertise and diligence of the people who work at the Law Commission, and actively seek out the expertise, experience and perspective of stakeholders and the public to inform our work.

Integrity: We act in good faith, with honesty and impartiality in service of our statutory duty to conduct law reform to improve outcomes for all groups in society.
