We are happy to discuss possible attachments with academics and PhD students. We are also open to supporting research opportunities that are mutually beneficial.

About academic placements
We offer a small number of placements to individuals who can contribute to our project work. They are not paid although we may be able to cover reasonable travel expenses.
We are interested in proposals from sociologists and criminologists as well as legal academics. When getting in touch, you will need to show that you can make a specific contribution to one of our current projects.
We will also cover details such as:
- duration and attendance
- contribution expectations
- liaison and facilities available
- disclosure, publication and attribution
To discuss a possible placement, contact us on enquiries@lawcommission.gov.uk.
About research options
We are keen to support contacts from academics who are researching areas of law that we are working on. Sometimes we will contact academics to encourage them to undertake research that might help our research.
You will be working remotely and under your own supervision so our input is usually limited to:
- discussing the application
- commenting on a draft
- providing a letter of support to the funding body
