Published:

Northumbria University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 8ST

09:00 to 17:00, Monday 14 September 2026

The Law Commission and Northumbria University are hosting a full day event focused on Reforming Homicide Offences following the publication of the Law Commission’s Homicide Offences Consultation Paper (No277, 17 June 2026).

The event will take place in person at Northumbria University’s City Campus East, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Information on getting to City Campus East is available via the following link: https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/study-at-northumbria/visit-northumbria/getting-here/getting-here/getting-here/

The meeting will include sessions on First- and Second- Tier of Murder (including the role of partial defences), Manslaughter, Homicide in relation to victims of domestic abuse including those who are driven to suicide, and specific causation-based offences linked to homicide (for example, causing death by supply of drugs, failure to rescue etc.). There will be a combination of presentations and time for discussions directly responding to the Law Commission Consultation Paper questions. We ask that attendees review the Consultation paper and questions in advance of the session.

Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. To secure a place at the event, RSVP to Kathryn Nisbet at Northumbria University: kathryn.nisbet@northumbria.ac.uk
