Sir James Munby

Published:
Sir James Munby

The Law Commission is sad to hear of the death of Sir James Munby who was the Chair between 2009 and 2012.

Current Chair Sir Peter Fraser said,

“It is with great sadness that all of us have learned of the death in early January of Sir James Munby, who was one of my predecessors as Chair and served the Law Commission between 2009 and 2012.

“He was a highly intellectual and kind man, ultimately rising after his time at the Commission to President of the Family Division. He remained highly active in the field of law reform, responding in detail to many of our consultations and most recently being publicly involved in the public debate on assisted dying. His death is a great loss to the judiciary and the Law Commission.

“The thoughts and sympathy of all of at the Commission are with his wife Jennifer, his two children and all of his family and friends.”
