Special Counsel for Wales appointed

The Law Commission has appointed Dr Nerys Llewelyn Jones as Special Counsel for Wales.
The role was created to bolster the Law Commission’s long-term commitment to law reform in Wales. It is a part-time role, for one year. It is designed to help shape the Commission’s work in Wales, providing senior leadership and strategic advice on the selection, development and management of law reform projects in Wales. The Commission is also looking to build on their strong relationships with key partners in Wales, including the Welsh Government, the Senedd, the legal profession and the third sector.
Dr Llewelyn Jones is working closely with the Law Commissioner for Wales, Professor Alison Young. The Commission is confident that her high standing within the legal community in Wales, senior experience from previous roles, and strong track record of public engagement in Wales will help build a lasting foundation for high-quality law reform that meets the needs of the people of Wales.
Dr Llewelyn Jones is the founder of niche law firm Agri Advisor and is a specialist agricultural and environmental lawyer. An accredited mediator and succession facilitator. She studied Law at Aberystwyth University and completed her LLM in Environmental Law and PhD there. Her doctorate was in the implementation and enforcement of law and policy related to sustainable agriculture at international and national levels of governance. She is a fluent Welsh speaker and lives on a farm in rural Carmarthenshire.
