We are conducting a review of the law on contempt of court and considering the need for reform to improve its effectiveness, consistency, and coherence. Our objective is to produce a law of contempt that is easier to understand, fairer, and that better protects the administration of justice.
The purpose of this project is to review the law, practice, guidance and procedure in sexual offences cases and to make recommendations for reform to improve the understanding of consent and sexual harm, improve treatment of complainants, and ensure that defendants receive a fair trial.
This document outlines the recommendations in our report on murder, manslaughter and infanticide in 2006, and commentary on and developments in the law since then. We set out the scope of the new project and invite evidence from stakeholders on the range of issues that we may consider within the project.
The paper aims to raise awareness of legal issues regarding AI, prompting wider discussion of the topic, and to act as a step towards identifying those areas most in need of law reform.
