The Law Commission has today published an update covering 2019 to 2023  looking at how law reform provides tangible and enduring benefits to the economy and society.

The update shows the potential for economic gains in excess of £670 million and that our recommendations can lead to positive impacts for significant numbers of people. For example, our projects on Marriage and on Hate Crime potentially impact 5.3 million people, and our Automated Vehicles project could positively impact 78 percent of households.

In 2019 we published a report, “Value of Law Reform”, which measured the economic and other benefits flowing from the work of the Commission. The results then clearly highlighted the value that good law reform can deliver in terms of the overall financial benefits, access to justice and the wellbeing of individuals.

The update and the original 2019 report are available here.
