The Law Commission of England and Wales is calling on senior legal professionals and academics looking to make a real difference to the law of England and Wales.

The Commission seeks two new Commissioners to lead law reform projects in both Commercial and Common Law, and Property, Family, and Trust Law.

Commissioners play a pivotal role in leading law reform in England and Wales. The new Commissioners will have a significant and influential role in shaping the law.

The new Commissioners will be people of exceptional intellectual ability with outstanding areas of experience and expertise. Equally importantly, they will be intellectually curious, willing to consider and debate alternative views, and enthusiastic about turning their abilities to new legal and policy issues.

The role of a Law Commissioner is challenging and multi-faceted. At its core is developing law reform proposals – they deliver the highest quality legal research, engage directly and regularly with interested stakeholders, and produce consultation papers, reports and draft Bills on a wide range of topics. However, there is also a significant amount of external engagement – discussing proposals with ministers, parliamentarians, and the senior judiciary across England and Wales and playing an active role in legislation going through Parliament and the Senedd, and leadership, sitting as a member of the Board of the Law Commission and leading a diverse team of Civil Servants. The successful candidates will lead in engaging with the public and the media about their projects at seminars, conferences and one-to-one meetings.

The Law Commission an independent body whose function is to keep the laws of England and Wales under review and to recommend reform where it is needed. The aim of the Commission is to ensure that the law is fair, modern, simple, and cost effective.
