Funded secondments (qualified lawyers and trainee solicitors/pupils)
Qualified and experienced lawyers
We will consider loans and secondments when recruiting law reform lawyers.
We may in occasional circumstances be able to support other types of placement where the focus is on the development of an individual and the cost is born by their employer. In such circumstances, we will only consider individuals who can work productively on a Law Commission project.
Trainees and Pupils
The Commission does not offer its own trainee solicitor or pupillage schemes.
Exceptionally, we may be able to offer a placement that would form part of an individual’s legal training. For example, we supported CPS trainees who needed experience of non-criminal work, each of the individuals concerned worked on a current civil law project. The shadowing was funded by the CPS and worked to their, our and the individual’s advantage.
The expectation is that the person on the placement will be continuing to receive their salary from their employer. It is not possible for the Law Commission to cover costs or pay individuals for their time with us.
